On December 28, 1956, brothers Bob & Jack Thornton officially opened their magnificent Polynesian theme restaurant and lounge in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Mai-Kai, meaning “the finest,” would quickly gain fame as one of the most creative, elaborate, and authentic establishments in the world of Polynesian culture in the Americas.
